"...she had a dream abut the King of Sweden' after a trip to Chinatown "to kick the gong around,"--which translates into Opium Smoking in the parlance of post World War One era Harlem. Cab Calloway’s trademark song "Minnie The Moocher" was used by Max Fleisher in his best Betty Boop animated short, where Cab is portrayed as the walrus who’s picture graces the wall of Minnie’s boudoir.

Clothilde was a devout Christian girl married to a Pagan German prefect in the service of Rome. Her efforts at converting the Roman troops so angered her husband, he locked her in the cave where his hogs were kept. He told her to convert the hogs, and when the hogs were able to pray he would feed them. Ultimately, the starving livestock ate her.

Two of the Fates, so often invoked as scapegoats for our shortcomings, meet at the top of the universe. Having nothing to do and a bizillion years to do it, they begin playing dice with a handy pair of knuckle bones. As it becomes clear that they have no control over the way the numbers fall, the Fates are overjoyed to learn that they are of no consequence.

Witchy woman of mythology’s activities are best described by Bullfinch, "..in order to delay the pursuit by King Aeetes, Medea killed her halfbrother, Absyrtis, and cut his body into pieces, scattering the parts behind the ship. The pursuers had to stop and collect Absyrtis' dismembered body in order to give it proper burial."

This piece is an attempt to illustrate the lyrics of '70s southern rockers, Black Oak Arkansas, who had a hit covering this little known 'race record'. Singer, Jim Dandy Magnum, met Elvis early in his career and the King suggested this song for the band’s repertoire . The influence of rococo master, Gambatista Tiepolo, is evident in the frenzied depiction of Magnum rescuing the Mermaid Queen.

This favorite subject for centuries of painters illustrates the origin of this legendary beauty. Typically flanked by 2 secondary figures, I chose Johnny and Deedee Ramone for my version. The neolithic fertility sculpture Venus of Willendorf, is perched on her shoulder. The lighthearted mood is further expanded by flies swarming into her mouth, establishing her pedegree as a famous fly trap.

Created as part of the Grammy Museum's "Who Killed the Music?" 2010 show in support of the Grammy Awards. Terpsichore, Hathor, Macuilxochitl, and Cerridwin awkwardly attempt to dodge bullets.

The conquest of Mexico by Cortez in 1519 was accomplished with 500 men, 20 horses and 4 cannon. The vast majority of the fighting, dying, plundering and destruction was done by Tlaxcala and other tribes who rose against their Aztec overlords. The rape of the indigenous people of the New World happened without a European in sight.

Reading from the left, we see a crude tarot card image, the boundless energy of fossil fuels, that girl from the Penthouse Letters section, and William Randolf Hearst-popular party giver, war monger and presidential candidate.
