Jim Dandy To The Rescue

Oil on wood panel; 18"x24"; 2004. This piece is an attempt to illustrate the lyrics of '70s southern rockers, Black Oak Arkansas, who had a hit covering this little known 'race record'. Singer, Jim Dandy Magnum, met Elvis early in his career and the King suggested this song for the band’s repertoire . The influence of rococo master, Gambatista Tiepolo, is evident in the frenzied depiction of Magnum rescuing the Mermaid Queen.
